The smallpox section was really good. Always heard that people were actually buried alive and folks could be heard from the coffins and ignored. Any truth in that?

Thanks for your visit to the site and glad to hear that you were captivated by the smallpox epidemic featured in the story. The idea that people were being buried alive to prevent the spread of the disease were just rumours, and they were born out of ignorance and fear. It would have been a horrible time for the islanders, and not being allowed to visit their loved ones in hospital, and not even to say a final goodbye would have raised their suspicions that the authorities were trying to hide something from them. It is amazing how fear and ignorance could affect a whole country. Take care and have a great Christmas, all the best, Rosie.
